The annual event offering citizens and tourists the opportunity to explore private courtyards, usually inaccessible, and immerse themselves in the architecture and history of Milan.
On Sunday, 26 May 2024, the “Cortili Aperti” initiative returns to Milan, offering a unique opportunity to explore courtyards and gardens usually closed to the public. Organized by the Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane, this event celebrates over twenty-five years of discovering Milan’s architectural heritage.
This year, the event takes place in the streets around Via Manzoni, in the ancient sestiere of Porta Nuova. The tour starts from Piazza Belgioioso, home to the historic Casa Manzoni and the imposing Palazzo Belgiojoso. Among the participating buildings are Palazzo Morando, now the Museum of Milan, Casa Fontana Silvestri, a splendid example of Renaissance architecture, and Palazzo Anguissola Antona Traversi, renovated in 1829 by Luigi Canonica. These locations, along with Palazzo Brentani and Palazzo Beltrami, which house the Gallerie d’Italia, open their doors to reveal hidden stories and beauties.
The Brera district, the vibrant heart of Milanese art and culture, participates with some of its hidden gems. Among these, in addition to the courtyards of private residences, visitors can admire the courtyards of Palazzo Brera, home to the Pinacoteca di Brera, which will open its interior spaces for the occasion. The charm of Brera’s historic courtyards, with their evocative atmospheres and centuries-old stories, will offer a unique and immersive experience.
Guided tours, with mandatory reservation, last approximately 90 minutes. Part of the proceeds will be allocated to a restoration project promoted by the Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane.
