Music, performances, cinema and words: inclusive culture under the stars at the Castello Sforzesco
Estate al Castello, promoted by the Municipality of Milan and curated by Federico Russo, returns in 2025 until 11 September with a cultural programme under the stars that combines concerts, theatrical performances, dance evenings and a film festival, transforming the Cortile delle Armi at the Castello Sforzesco into a prestigious cultural stage, perfect for enjoying the city summer through art and social gatherings.
What’s on offer
This year’s programme spans various artistic languages, designed to satisfy a broad audience. Among the main highlights is live music featuring internationally renowned artists such as Benjamin Clementine (10 July), with his poetic and intense soul, and the extraordinary Stefano Bollani Quintet (16 July), offering a performance focused on jazz and improvisation.
The stage will also host the legendary Neapolitan band 99 Posse (19 July), who will deliver an energetic and socially engaged show with their mix of rap and reggae.
Theatre enthusiasts can immerse themselves in Milanese Renaissance with Game of Sforza (22 July), a production weaving history, mystery and art around Leonardo da Vinci.
Dance takes centre stage in the Dance Gala (26 July), an event showcasing both emerging talents and established stars of the dance scene, in a dialogue between classical and contemporary styles.
Finally, for cinema lovers, from 1 to 27 August the Cinema Under the Stars festival offers a selection of cult films and restored classics screened outdoors, accompanied by discussions with directors and critics.
This year, alongside the established artistic programme, Estate al Castello introduces new collaborations and opportunities for deeper engagement, including workshops, post-show talks and interactive activities designed to involve the audience more fully. The format also places special emphasis on sustainability, with initiatives dedicated to environmental respect and responsible use of the space.
