In the heart of Brera, Kasthall presents the Landskab collection by award-winning Danish designer Cecilie Manz. Quality, sophistication and simplicity define the new carpets.
From Sweden to the heart of Milan via New York and 30 other countries around the world, Kasthall has been waving its flag as the world’s leading manufacturer of carpets and textile coverings for almost 140 years. Its showroom in Italy is located in Brera, near the beautiful church of San Simpliciano, a refined place in which to discover the brand’s new collections and important collaborations with international designers.
The latest is the one with Cecilie Manz, one of Denmark’s most awarded designers, for the Landskab collection: four carpets – Ålegræs, Spire, Korn and Gryn – two of which are loom-woven and two hand-weaved, made with a profound knowledge of linen.
“I think linen is one of the most beautiful materials: modest yet elegantly refined. Even in small quantities, it gives the surface of fabrics a wonderful glow and reflection,” says Cecilie Manz.
Inspired by the desire to create a precious yet simple product while respecting Kasthall’s very high quality standards, Cecilie Manz has created a collection in which dusty, muted colours and textures are perfectly balanced. “The colours were chosen to suggest delicate shades, not too strong or bright. I like to work with colours in between, paying attention to the context and what you want to highlight,” says Manz.
With a simple, elegant, pure and functional aesthetic, Cecilie Manz has masterfully translated Kasthall’s handcrafted soul into innovative, modern and durable design products. The technical and aesthetic details of the Landskab carpets – now on display in the Brera showroom – invite one to pause and observe the patterns beyond the surface and find beauty in the seemingly simple.
“I like the small technical details of weaving. It is interesting how a single thread changes the feeling of colours, depth, and affects the whole perception. It may sound very technical, but that is the whole point of the collection,” Manz explains.
Nature always plays a fundamental role in the Danish designer’s creative process. Her profound relationship with the natural world influences her entire work on a more or less unconscious level, leading to the creation of products, such as the Kasthall carpets, that remind us of the importance of bringing the interior into contact with nature.
The collaboration between Cecilie Manz and Kasthall could only lead to impeccable results, products of the highest craftsmanship, elegance and versatility. Rugs whose production processes, as they are made at the Kinna site in Sweden, allowed for special attention not only to the end result but also to the internal manufacturing process.
“The fact that Kasthall realises all processes at the Kinna site in Sweden, where production still takes place today, is a rarity for a designer. In this way, communication and feedback are direct, immediate and precise, allowing for rapid experimentation,” explains Cecilie Manz.
