The Milanese hydraulic work with its macabre use
Many associate the Tombone di San Marco with the historic brewery opened in 1957, still located today between Via Montebello and Via San Marco.
However, for the Milanese, the Tumbun or Tombon was the most dangerous point on the canal, where the depth of the water created whirlpools. For this reason, unfortunately, it became a notorious spot for suicides.
It was nothing more than a hydraulic structure that allowed the Naviglio Martesana canal to enter the city and connect to the Cerchia dei Navigli canal system.
