A historic residence now home to precious works of art
Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli was born in Milan on 27 July 1822 and developed a passion for art and literature from an early age, thanks in part to the education he received from his mother, Rosa Trivulzio.
In 1849, he began his project to create a collection of Italian art and build his house-museum, which was inaugurated in 1881.
In addition to managing his collection, Gian Giacomo also devoted himself to the design of his apartment, entrusting the work to the most important artists of the time: Giuseppe Bertini and Luigi Scrosati.
The result is a series of rooms inspired by different styles of the past, treasure troves of antique paintings, furnishings and works of applied art.
Today, it is possible to visit the museum and its collection, one of the most prestigious in Europe, which still collects donations, maintaining and continuing the vocation of its founder: a space at the service of the community.
