The Arena Civica, inaugurated in 1807 as the Milan Amphitheatre, has always been considered a great civic building for parties, shows and celebrations.
All kinds of celebrations took place inside such as: horse races, football matches, concerts, fireworks displays and so on.
But did you know that Naumachies were also carried out?
Well yes, it was precisely at its inauguration in 1807 that the first naval battle simulation took place in the presence of Napoleon Bonaparte, which was followed by many others.
The space was flooded by taking water from a nearby artificial canal, and historical battles were then re-enacted.
