Scandinavian spring is something truly special. After months of darkness and slumber, sunlight returns and nature wakes up in hues of green, pink, yellow and blue. During Milan Design Week, Swedish rug manufacturer Kasthall brings this spirit of renewal to Milan together with Swedish textile maker Astrid in an exhibition titled Springtime with Kasthall & Astrid, created by British interior designer Richard J McConkey from A Studio Between. Kasthall’s showroom in Brera will be transformed to house an exhibition combining the season’s colours and natural materials that are central for the two brands, such as linen, wool and hemp. The exhibition turns the Rationalist architecture of Kasthall’s showroom into a gallery, using textiles as the prime materials. Light, shadow, texture and layering create a place to slow down and experience the quality of these beautiful, natural materials. Kasthall, celebrating its 135th anniversary this year, presents Anemon, a rug collection inspired by an original artwork by the company’s legendary former lead designer Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg from 1991, discovered in the company’s extensive archives and now reimagined for new generations, and Fasad, a collection by David Chipperfield Design, breathing new life into post consumer wool sourced from discarded mattresses. Astrid fills the space with its exquisite, soft fabrics, including a display of ongoing experiments in combining colour, texture and textiles.
