BAM Open Air Design 2024: the natural theatre of design in Milan

Art, Design and Nature meet on the lawns of the Biblioteca degli Alberi di Milano

From 2nd to 5th October 2024, the lawns of the Biblioteca degli Alberi di Milano (BAM) will host the fourth edition of BAM Open Air Design, an exhibition dedicated to outdoor design that combines innovation, sustainability, and art. Organised by Coima Image in collaboration with the Fondazione Riccardo Catella and curated by MoscaPartners, the event will explore the theme of “Natural Theatre,” creating a captivating dialogue between architecture, design, and nature.

BAM’s park becomes an open-air stage where design and the environment blend harmoniously. The installations, arranged within the iconic “Red Circles,” guide visitors through an exhibition that encourages interaction between the artworks and the natural landscape. Twelve leading companies in the outdoor design sector, including Artemide, Kartell, Gessi, and Poliform, will showcase their works, promoting sustainability and the circular economy—key concepts of the project.

In addition to the installations, BAM Open Air Design 2024 offers a rich programme of events designed to engage the public. Highlights include creative workshops such as the Botanical Walk and floral design workshops led by Potafiori. There will also be film screenings, including a documentary on Emilio Ambasz and the short film Rasti by Kartell, as well as immersive talks with distinguished guests. Every day, attendees can enjoy jazz concerts and evening DJ sets, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.

With a cultural programme spanning art, design, music, and theatre, BAM Open Air Design demonstrates how design can become an integral part of urban life while simultaneously fostering greater ecological and social awareness. The event, free and open to all, offers a unique experience in one of Milan’s most iconic green spaces, where human creativity meets the natural beauty of the park.
