It was 1930 when the stories of two renowned Milanese pastry chefs, intertwined and merged in a place in Viale Monza in Milan, the old headquarters, now flanked by the brand new headquarters in Via Cusani n 10, in the central Brera area.
In the shadow of the Madonnina, the real "Panettun de Milan", the undisputed symbol of Milanese pastry in the world, was born with pride.
But the history of the "GIOVANNI COVA & C." brand actually has much more distant roots and, to tell it like a fairy tale, are some sepia photos dated 1905, which refer to the years of the Belle Epoque in Milan and the graceful visions of women wrapped in chiffon and fluttering lace. In Via Amerigo Vespucci, in Porta Nuova, a stone's throw from the old headquarters of the "Gazzetta dello Sport", Angelo Grioni had started his confectionery business. From his happy marriage five children were born and if Antonio, the only male, was the continuation of his father's activity, who moved to Via Francesco Ayaz n°8, it was thanks to his daughter Rosa and her husband Agostino Panigada that he married Giovanni Cova, confectioner and brother-in-law of the couple.
The three of them had the happy intuition of reproducing the panettone of the ancient Milanese recipe, according to the truest tradition of Milan, handcrafted by true master pastry chefs. "GIOVANNI COVA & C." qualified itself as the "brand that renews a tradition" and, to underline the primacy of the "luxury panettone", advertising posters were put up that told the totalizing story of the panettone, since then, surmounted by a showy royal crown.
And with good reason that crown continues to shine on the brand "GIOVANNI COVA & C." "unchanged in its tradition, but in continuous evolution, witnessing how the best costumes last over time".
