class=\"h3\"> The Castello Sforzesco risked demolition, did you know that?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Castello Sforzesco is one of the largest in Europe and was built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza.<br>Today it is a much-loved symbol of the city, but how come in the past there were plans to make it disappear?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a popular petition that demanded its demolition in 1796, as a symbol of the \u2018ancient tyranny\u2019, and it was Napoleon who accepted the popular unease and ordered its total demolition by decree on 23 June 1800.<br>Work even began on the side towers and the Spanish bastions, but fortunately it was not completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In spite of this, popular discontent persisted and demolition was attempted again, with a planned residential quarter in its place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we can still admire our beloved castle today, it is thanks to the work of the architect Luca Beltrami and the Societ\u00e0 Storica Lombarda ETS, of which he was vice-president, who restored it to the splendour of the Sforza seigniory in 1905.<\/p>\n","protected":false,"raw":"<!-- wp:acf\/introduzione lavori sulle torri laterali e sui bastioni spagnoli, ma fortunatamente non fu portato a compimento.<\/p>\n<p>Nonostante ci\u00f2 il malcontento popolare incalzava e fu tentata nuovamente la demolizione, al suo posto vi era un progetto di quartiere residenziale.<\/p>\n<p>Se oggi possiamo ancora ammirare il nostro amato Castello \u00e8 grazie all'operato dell'architetto Luca Beltrami e alla Societ\u00e0 Storica Lombarda ETS, dic ui era vice-presidente, che lo sottopose ad un'opera di restauro, riportandolo nel 1905 alo splendore della signoria degli
