Did you know that the cloisters of San Simpliciano were once occupied by the Italian Bersaglieri?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

It is no secret that the part of Brera that today lies between Via dei Cavalieri di Santo Sepolcro, Piazza Paolo VI and Via Solferino was once a military zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first half of the 20th century, the Chiostri di San Simpliciano, which had been used as barracks since the end of the 18th century, were occupied by a battalion of Bersaglieri, taking the name Caserma Luciano Manara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The name was a tribute to the Risorgimento patriot Luciano Manara, who fought for Italian independence, leading the volunteer Bersaglieri and dying in defence of the Roman Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1927, the barracks were transferred from the state to the municipality, and this marked the beginning of the design and redevelopment of the area as we know it today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the 1930s, the part adjacent to the basilica, with the large courtyard, the small cloister and the grand staircase, was transferred to the parish.<\/p>\n","protected":false,"raw":"\n\n\n\n\n

Non \u00e8 una novit\u00e0 che la parte di Brera che oggi \u00e8 collocata tra Via dei Cavalieri di Santo Sepolcro, Piazza Paolo VI e Via Solferino fu un tempo zona militare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nella prima met\u00e0 del \u2018900 i Chiostri di San Simpliciano, che gi\u00e0 da fine \u2018700 furono adibiti a Caserma, vennero occupati da un battaglione di bersaglieri, prendendo il nome di: Caserma Luciano Manara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il nome fu un omaggio al patriota risorgimentale Luciano Manara, che combatt\u00e9 per l'indipendenza italiana, guidando i bersaglieri volontari e morendo nella difesa della Repubblica Romana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nel 1927, la caserma venne ceduta dallo Stato al Comune ed \u00e8 cos\u00ec che avr\u00e0 inizio la progettazione e riqualificazione della zona cos\u00ec come la conosciamo ora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
