Brera<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>An artist from Brera Born in 1859 in Brianza to a very humble family, he found himself having to work from an early age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a brief stint at the Milanese workshop of street poster painter Faustino Colombo, he used his savings to pay for his studies at the Brera Academy, where he attended nude and anatomy classes, studying under Giuseppe Bertini and alongside Giovanni Segantini, Giovanni Sottocornola and Ernesto Bazzaro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Initially, after his debut in 1880, he was not very successful and was forced to work as a painter and decorator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only two years later, thanks to his friend Segantini, he rejoined the Brera artists and met important gallery owners, also beginning to frequent the members of the Scapigliatura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also began to take an interest in socialism and frequent the literary salon of Ersilia Bronzini, wife of Luigi Majno, \u201cthe lawyer of the poor\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His most socially critical works, such as \u201cPiscinina\u201d, date back to this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A revolutionary artist, dedicated to the people, he also earned a reputation as a dangerous social agitator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was not always viewed favourably by Milanese artists because of his ideals and strong positions, and was even excluded from the Brera artists for about ten years, although he continued to exhibit at the Permanente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today he is buried in the Monumental Cemetery of Milan.<\/p>\n","protected":false,"raw":"<!-- -->\n<p>Nato nel 1859 in Brianza da una famiglia molto umile, fin dalla tenera et\u00e0 si trov\u00f2 a dover lavorare.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Dopo una breve esperienza presso la bottega milanese del pittore di cartelloni stradali Faustino Colombo, con i suoi risparmi riusc\u00ec a pagarsi gli studi all\u2019Accademia di Brera dove frequent\u00f2 i corsi di nudo e di anatomia, allievo di Giuseppe Bertini e compagno di studi di Giovanni Segantini, Giovanni Sottocornola ed Ernesto Bazzaro.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Inizialmente, dopo il suo esordio nel 1880, non ebbe molto successo e fu costretto a lavorare come imbianchino e tappezziere.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Solo due anni dopo grazie all\u2019amico Segantini riprese a far parte degli artisti di Brera e conobbe importanti galleristi iniziando anche a frequentare i membri della Scapigliatura.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Inizi\u00f2 ad avvicinarsi anche al socialismo e a frequentare il salotto letterario di Ersilia Bronzini, moglie di Luigi Majno, \u201cl\u2019avvocato dei poveri\u201d.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>A questo periodo risalgono le sue opere di maggiore contenuto di denuncia sociale come la \u201cPiscinina\u201d.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Un artista rivoluzionario, dedicato al popolo, che si guadagn\u00f2 nella vita anche il titolo di pericoloso agitatore sociale.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Non sempre fu visto di buon occhio dagli artisti milanesi a causa dei suoi ideali e delle sue forti posizioni, fu anche allontanato per una decina di
