Inauguration of the new Robertaebasta Gallery in Brera

The new address for design lovers and collectors

The Robertaebasta galleries, an international reference for 20th-century decorative arts for over fifty years, proudly announce the opening of a new location in the heart of the Brera district in Milan. Roberta Tagliavini and Mattia Martinelli, following their openings in London and New York, once again focus on the Milanese city, choosing a historically significant site for art and design: Via Fiori Chiari 16.

The new gallery is set in a location rich in artistic history. In 1962, Piero Manzoni opened his studio at the same address, turning the courtyard, now accessible to the gallery, into a meeting point for artists like Lucio Fontana, Enrico Castellani, and other key figures of the Milanese art scene of the 1960s. As Nanda Vigo recalled, “In the evenings, we used to go to 16 Via Fiori Chiari, in Brera, to Piero’s (Manzoni) place, with Lucio (Fontana), Enrico (Castellani), and the others.”

The new Robertaebasta exhibition space spans two levels, overlooking a beautiful, lush courtyard. Originally a 19th-century shop-house, the space was once accessible via a navigable canal. The recent refurbishment has incorporated unique details, such as the iron railing of the internal staircase depicting the acceleration of a running greyhound and the marble flooring of the first floor with bronze inserts inspired by “Pontian” motifs, representing the zodiac signs.

Robertaebasta’s collection, known for being layered, diverse, and surprising, finds in the new gallery a setting that perfectly reflects its character. For over half a century, Robertaebasta has stood out for its ability to showcase 20th-century art and design, offering a selection of pieces that span different styles and periods while maintaining the highest standards of quality and authenticity.

The opening of the new Robertaebasta gallery at Via Fiori Chiari 16 is not only a significant event for the Brera district but also a tribute to Milan’s rich artistic history. With this new location, Robertaebasta continues to solidify its role as a leader in the world of decorative arts, providing enthusiasts and collectors with a unique and unforgettable experience.
