Gucci | Bamboo Encounters: A New Exhibition for Fuorisalone

Inspired by the House’s pioneering use of bamboo, the special event reimagines the emblematic material in new ways through the creative works of diverse designers.

Gucci | Bamboo Encounters is the latest exhibition from the House to arrive in Milan for Fuorisalone 2025. The special event draws from Gucci’s significant history with bamboo, a relationship that dates back to the mid 1940s when artisans were first inspired to craft handbags with curved bamboo handles.

Building upon this rich legacy, Gucci collaborated with design agency 2050+ and its founder Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli, who were the curators behind the project. Together with Gucci, they invited a selection of contemporary designers from all over the world, each with different backgrounds, experiences, and expertise to reimagine the emblematic material in their own unique way.

Crafted by both individual artists and small design studios, each work interprets bamboo in the designers’ preferred medium. The result is a series of original contributions that span architecture and art, recontextualizing bamboo in bold and delightfully unexpected ways.

Alongside the designers’ works, the event will host special talks with creatives from the industry.
The event will be held April 8-13 at the historical Chiostri di San Simpliciano in Milan, with tickets currently available on https://capsule.gucci.com/bamboo-encounters.
